Tilwara Ghat is one of the most important historic places of Jabalpur as well as India. This ghat is situated at the banks of Narmada River at 12 km from Jabalpur’s Railway Station. This place is famous as the site where the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were immersed. Due to this there is also a ‘Gandhi Smarak’ being built in the place to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi. The place has also been the venue for the opening session of Tripuri Congress in 1939.
Apart from being a ghat, Tilwara is a pilgrimage centre as well. The popular Lord Shiva Temple known as the Tilwadeshwar Temple is also located here. There are many other temples too in the place like the Mala Devi Mandira, Pisan Hari Jain Temples, and the Roopnath Lingam Temple. The ‘Marble Rocks’ is also situated nearby this ghat along with sites like Parjyat Tank, Bargi Dam and the Lamheta Ghat.
