As one of the most famous London Art Galleries, The Courtauld Gallery was founded upon ‘the wish to expand the understanding of the visual arts in this country’ and houses some of the country’s best-loved artworks including world famous Old Masters, Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings, together with sculpture and applied arts.
This famous London attraction originated in buildings in Portman Square, and is now housed in Somerset House. As famous for its students as for its collections, it is now entirely self-governed having being previously affiliated with the Senate House of the University. To find out about more of the history of this unique gallery visit Somerset House today.
The Courtauld Gallery is just one of the many London galleries you can access free of charge with the London Pass - visitors to this London gallery should also consider a visit to the nearby National Portrait Gallery.
