Neelkanth Mahadev`s Temple is one of the most popularly visited tourist spots of Mandu. Located at a distance of 3 kms from the main road this is one of the oldest temples that was constructed nearby the Neelkantha palace of Mandu. Dedicated to Lord Shiva the temple is built with large stones which is an eminent part of Mughal architecture. The temple is surrounded by a number of trees. The enclosure of the shrine faces a sacred pond that receives water from its nearest stream. The shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva`s Neelkantha incarnation which shows the poisoned throat of Lord Shiva that turned blue due to the poison. As such the temple is named after the Neelkantha figure of Lord Shiva. Though the temple has an ancient Shiva lingum the temple was named as Neelkantha Temple.
