Welcome to York Art Gallery, which combines a proud history of displaying fine paintings and ceramics with a busy calendar of changing exhibitions and events.

The paintings on display span more than 600 years and range from 14th century Italian panels and 17th century Dutch masterpieces to Victorian narrative paintings and 20th century works by LS Lowry and David Hockney.

Our special exhibitions change every few months and can vary from Old Masters to contemporary sculpture, from National Portrait Gallery shows to Tracey Emin.

Family activities are held regularly in our Studio space, and the entrance area houses a friendly café serving hot drinks and food, with stunning views across to York Minster and the City Walls.
