Sheikh Chehli Mausoleum is the marble tomb that was constructed by the ruler Sher Shah Suri. Located in the north direction of Thanesar, this tomb is known for its architectural splendor and remarkable beauty. The place is visited by several tourists every year. Sheikh Chehli or Abdul Rahim, as he was popularly called, was a Sufi saint who taught sacred teachings to Dara Shikoh, one of the sons of Shah Jehan.
This protected monument resembles to Taj Mahal in its architecture. Built in the shape of an octagonal, Sheikh Chehli Mausoleum carries several marble arches. The windows are adorned with tracery screens. The central portion of the mausoleum has the tomb of Chehli. Standing on a terrace, the structure has nine openings that have built in arch shape. This piece of architecture is the storehouse of the antiquities that have been collected Thanesar and the nearby areas.
A madrasa is also present inside the mausoleum which carries a stone tank. All the excavated items have been placed inside this madrasa. Located within an area of five km, there are three mounds that are present in the vicinity of Sheikh Chehli Mausoleum. Pathari Masjid which is located at a short distance from here is another tourist site that is worth visiting. It was built by Feroz Shah Tughlaq.
