The Chandi Temple, according to historical evidences, was built by the Nilgiri King, Shri Vasanta Virata Bhujanga Mandhata during his reign between 1421 and 1464 B.C. Sajanagarh was made the capital of the empire so that he could better rule and coordinate his kingdom. The Temple of Chandi at one time was one of the main attractions for tantric ritual practices that used to be held and practiced here. But after the passage of time, the ritual practices were abolished by one of the descendents of Vasanta Virata Bhujanga Mandhata. Niligiri hills and lush green forests surround the Temple of Chandi, giving a sense of peace and calm to the temple, in its beautiful surroundings.
