Sayaji Baug is a garden located in Sayajigunj, Vadodara, Gujarat, India. Sayaji Baug was dedicated to the citizens of Vadodara by Maharaja Sayaji Rao Gaekwad III in 1879. Sayajirao III built Sayaji Baug, well known as Kamati Baug, on the river Vishwamitri. Sayaji Baug is the largest garden in Western India, stretching over 113 acres. It has a rich flora of more that 98 species of trees.The garden has a Zoo, a Musesum and Picture Gallery, a small museum for Health and Hygience, a floral clock, a bandstand and a toy train for children and some fun rides. It has well maintained lawns, decorated with sculptures placed on pedestals. The park has fountains and trees, which make it worthwhile for a visit. The park also has a planetarium.
Sayaji BaugThe maharaja of Vadodara, Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III built a park for the citizens of his state Vadodara. Sayaji Baug was named as Kamati Baug by maharaja. This garden is located in the centre of the city, built in 1879. Sayaji Baug is the largest garden of the western part of India. Tourist requires at least half a day to cover over 113 acres of garden situated on the bank of Vishwamitri River. The large area covered by the "Sayaji Baug", is home to the Sayaji Baug Zoo, the Sardar Patel Planetarium, Baroda Museum, Picture Gallery, Bandstand and Fountains. The major attraction for children is the joy ride on the toy train of about 3.5km and the Zoo. Sayaji Baug has a rich flora of more than 98 species of trees. The garden also has Astronomy Park next to the planetarium which exhibits the astronomical instruments used in ancient India.
The famous museum was built in 1894 on the lines of Victoria & Albert and Science Museums of London. Major Mant in association with R.F. Chisholm who refined some of Mant's finest works to make genuine Indo-Sarcenic architecture designed the Building of this Museum. It preserves a rich collection of art, sculpture, ethnography & ethnology. Several of the paintings are not only original but masterpieces at the picture gallery.
