The Film City was established in 1987. The studio includes over 25 acres (100,000 m2) of indoor soundstages.
Over two decades old, the Film City has been a host to shootings for feature films: both for the mainstream Hindi cinema and for a large number of regional films made in Hindi, Bhojpuri, Bengali, Punjabi, Rajasthani, Kashmiri, Oriya and other Indian languages.
The Film City was selected as the venue for the seventh biggest film festival of India in 2007. Films are invited from all over the world to participate in the Global Festival of Films on Peace and Spirituality. Sixty four offices were launched from Film City to promote this world event.
