The Jaigarh fort is the most spectacular of the three-hilltop forts that overlook Jaipur. In Mughal times, the Jaipur region was a major weapon-producing centre for the Mughal and Rajput rulers, several of the weapons being on display in the fort's museum
The world’s biggest cannon on wheels- the Jai Ban is positioned here, built during reign of Maharaja Sawai Jaisingh. It has a twenty feet long barrel and pumped in the cannon for a single shot.
The Jaipur city was founded in 1727 A.D. by the greate ruler Sawai Jai Singh II and named after him. Monarch was not only a great builder, but also an astronomer under him the Jaipur City or ("City of Victory") was designed by his talented architect Vidhyadhar, gave shape to the creative aspirations of Sawai Jai Singh in the form of the dream city of Jaipur.
Jaighar is one from the historical places of Jaipur City. It is responsible for the security of both Jaipur and Amber (Amber Fort). The main attraction is the Jaivana in Jaighar, world's largest cannon on wheels is here.It is Constructed in Jaighar's foundry in 1720, its barrel weighs close to 55 tons.
Wander around a bit and one can walk the ramparts and peer down the loopholes for guns and boiling oil, or check out the wide water channels. These are part of a very efficient system for rainwater harvesting, bringing in water from across the hills and into Jaigarh's 3 underground water tanks. The largest of the tanks stored 6,000,000 gallons of water enough to feed 10000 troops for 2 years. It is also believed that a huge treasure was buried under the tank until the government seized it during emergency in the 1970s. A case is till in court, but nothing has surfaced. The fort is now privately owned and the museums offer a brief but grand look in to the mighty power of the Rajput dynastys military power.
