Gyuto Monastery, Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh India

 This is a popular pilgrim site located around 15 kms from McLeodganj and is the abode of Karmapa (the head of the Karma Kagyu , a major school of Tibetan Buddhism). Often called as TCV school, the monastery houses the majestic image of Sakyamuni Buddha enshrined in a small chamber. The gompa was build to commemorate the Tibetan soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of Tibet. The structures of the stupa in the monastery has a stark resemblance to the structures that were built by King Asoka during the 3rd century BC.
