Kareri Lake, perched at an elevation of 2934 m from sea level, is a popular tourist destination in Kangra. Melting snow from the Dhauladhar range steadily feeds this lake. Situated at a distance of 9 km from Dharamshala, a beautiful Trekking route to the Dhauladhar Mountains originates from this lake.It gets its name from the nearby village of Kareri, which is located 9 km away in southeast direction. Kareri Lake offers splendid views of Dhauladhar Mountains and Mankiani Peak. Travellers can reach this lake from Ghera via a 3 km hiking route. An alternate route involves a long trek of 13 km from Kareri Village to the lake.
Is a high altitude, shallow, fresh water lake south of the Dhauladhar range approximately 9 km North West of Dharamshala in Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh. Its altitude is 3200 meters above the sea level. Kareri Lake is best known for being a trekking destination in the Dhauladhar. Snow melting from the Dhauladhar range serves as the source of the lake and a stream, Nyiund is the outflow. Since the source is fresh melting snow and the lake is shallow, water visibility is very high and in most places, the lake bed can be seen. Located at a distance of 33 km from Dharamshala and at an altitude of 1,983 meters above the sea level, Kareri village is set amidst beautiful settings.13 km from here lies the impressive Kareri lake 3,200 meters above the sea level amidst green meadows, oak and pine trees making it an idyllic spot to visit. Kareri Lake is named after the nearby gaddi village of Kareri, situated 9 km south east of the lake. The Kareri Lake is the third largest natural lake in the Dhauladhar region. The lake is located in the North West Sector of the Dhauladhar range.
