Dal Lake, most attracted tourist spot in Dharamsala, situated at a height of 1775m above sea-level is renowned for its scenic beauty and the cool ambience, which is 11 km away from Dharamshala. The Dal Lake is surrounded by deep green Deodar forests. It is a best base camp for trekkers in Dharamsala and Mcleod Ganj.
On the bank of Dal Lake a famous Lord Shiva temple is located, which is considered to be very sacred.
The annual fair held every year in September on the banks of the Lake is a great attraction to the tourists. Taking a holy dip in this lake is considered to remove all miseries. It is a common belief that the dip in this holy lake will bring blesses of Lord Shiva. Even though the lake is small, the surroundings make it charming and dynamic.
As located on the Himalayas, the climate of Dharamshala is pleasant during summer and very cold in winters. The summer months from May to October is pleasant and is the ideal time to visit the hill station. During winters the temperature can drop below the freezing point and heavy woolen clothes are required.
Kangra Dal Lake is located about 4 kms from Mc Leodgunj in Himachal Pradesh. The point where Naddi and Stobarry split is the place where Kangra Dal Lake begins. This Dal Lake also comes is the way of one of the highest motorable path which passes through Mc Leodgung. Located near the Tibetan Children Village; it is the place from where trekking and excursions begun.
Dal Lake of Himachal Pradesh is very near to Dharamshala Hill Station. One has to trek the distance of just 11 kms to reach the lake. You can also reach the place by road, but the natural beauty can be felt only if one treks through the entire path. The place is always filled with tourists and local people, so its not a totally abandoned place and one can go here individually.
Dal Lake is located the Village called Tota Rani and comes under mid altitude lakes with a height of 1,775 mts above the sea level.
The color of Kangra Dal Lake is Green, maybe because of the numerous fishes which are in the Lake.
