A Kutchi cultural center located further south along College Road (which leads away from the lake past Alfred High School, the Ramkund Stepwell and the Swaminarayan Temple), the B.S.D. contains an excellent collection of Kutchi folk art and crafts, especially from the more remote regions of the district, collected by a forest service official as he traveled around doing government work. There are also exhibits of rural architecture, paintings, textile arts and archaeological specimens.
Bharatiya Sanskriti Darshan (also known as the Folk museum) in Bhuj is a prominent Kutchi cultural center and museum situated towards the south of College Road near the Collector s Office. It houses a marvelous range of Kutchi folk art and crafts, particularly the ones belonging to the countryside regions of Kutch district, which are garnered with earnest efforts of an official forest representative during his tour around while executing government duties. The central area of the museum has exhibits of rural architecture among beautiful paintings and quality textile arts laced with archaeological specimens.
It has chiefly five segments. The Ethnological segment that contains Sahitya Chitra exists in the central hall. Other segments have got crucial artifacts such as leather embroidery, woodwork, metal carvings, terra cotta, wall hangings, beadwork, daggers and swords. Tourists will be able to view intricately designed “Kothala”, which exists inside one of the huts.
