Wildlife Place in Sundarbans

One of the most popular viewing tower within the Sundarbans National Park, Sajnekhali Watchtower complex is also the head office of the Forest Department. Permission, which is required to enter the the tiger reserve is issued from this point. Featuring a capacity to hold 20 persons at a time at the viewing platform, this complex also has a Mangrove Interpretation Centre, a Crocodile Park and the Bono Bibi Temple.
Presenting a good opportunity to view Sundarbans wildlife at close quarters from here, Sajnekhali Watchtower is a favorite with bird watchers. Some of the popular avian fauna that can be sighted from here include seven colorful species of the Kingfisher, White Bellied Sea Eagle, Plovers, Lap-Wings, Curfews, Whimprel, Sandpipers and the occasional Pelican. Another reason which makes this watchtower convenient, comfortable and a favorite with tourists is the West Bengal Tourism Department Corporation’s Tourist Lodge located here.
