According to a legend one Dharna Shah – a Jain businessman had a dream where he was asked to construct Jain temples there. He approached Rana Kumbha – the ruler of Mewar to ask for some land to construct temples. Temples in Ranakpur were constructed in 1439 AD and were named after Rana Kumbha. The temples besides being a popular pilgrimage site for the Jain community are an architectural delight as well.
