The town of Phalodi was founded by Shri Siddhuji Kalla in the year 1458 A.D. and was named as Phalvaridhika, which was later renamed as 'Phalodi' at the request of Phala, the widowed daughter of Shri Sidhu Kalla. The Phalodi Fort was built in the year 1488 A.D. by Rao Hammir Narawat, the grandson of Rao Suja, the Maharaja of Marwar (Jodhpur). It is famous for its beautiful architectural style.
In 1547 A.D., Rao Maldeo became the ruler of Phalodi. But in the year 1578 A.D., it was handed over to Rai Singh, the King of Bikaner, by the Mughal Emperor Akbar. In 1615 A.D., it came under the control of Rao Soor Singh of Jodhpur State and thereafter remained a part of the State of Jodhpur.
Phalodi town is famous for its delicate 'jooti'. These shoes come in various shapes and sizes but will be decorated with heavy embroidery. You can bargain and buy some of these. If you like bangles then this place has to offer a lot. You can find it wherever you go in the town. A small bead jeweler's shop quickly puts together Bishnoi style necklace complete with enormous pendants.
