Pangot, Nainital, Uttarakhand India

Located in the Lake District of India, Pangot is a picturesque hill station located about 13 km from Nainital in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.

The pleasant climate, scenic landscape and laidback charm of Pangot make it an ideal place for tourists. Though the hill station witnesses a heavy rush during summers, it is popular as a winter holiday destination too. Tourists flock to Pangot to experience snowfall during the chilling winter months.

Unlike popular tourist destinations in Uttarakhand like Dehradun and Nainital, Pangot is quiet and laidback. Relatively free of the crowds and the natural beauty of the hill station makes it an ideal destination for honeymooners.

The hamlet of Pangot is a popular place for bird watching too. Over 150 bird species, including lammergeyer, blue winged minla, spotted and slaty backed forktail, rufous-bellied woodpecker, yellow throated Himalayan martens and khalij pheasant can be spotted in the region. Snow View Point and Kilbury are the most popular places for birding in Pangot.

One can also spot mammals such as sambar, gorals, barking deer, leopard, civets, etc. Corbett National Park, acclaimed for its association with Jim Corbett, is situated just a few kilometers from Pangot.

Pangot and surrounding regions are fed by several perennial and seasonal streams. The sight of crystal clear water gurgling down the mountains is a sight to behold. Several stunning lakes such as Naini Tal, Saat Tal, Naukuchia Tal, etc. are also located around Pangot.

Pangot also serves as an ideal place to go on short easy treks. One of the most famous trekking trails in Pangot starts from the hill station and leads to Naina Peak via Kilbury. Treks to Namik, Pindari and Nanda Devi are also extremely popular. A lot of treks starting from Nainital either pass through Pangot or end there.

 Pangot is a village in Nainital not far from the hill station at the foothills of the Kumaon forests made famous by Jim Corbett's overtures and Ruskin Bond's evocative tales. Small in size, this boudoir of tranquility and natural beauty is big on avian attraction, with over 500 species of birds flashing like beacons amidst the oak and pine trees on the rolling hills to their grounded compatriots who look up at and to them.

Nestled fragilely below lush orchards at a stately 1370m, Sattal is an unmolested oasis that stands in elegant defiance of the modern vices of reckless urbanization. And composed, as the name betrays, of seven interconnected lakes amidst beautiful forests carpeting the pristine undulations, it is a hub of migratory bird activity that only the Himalayan highs can foster.

Together they are one of the Great Himalayas' great birding locales that treat your eyes to exotic birds of many a colourful feather while the idyllic environs mollycoddle your senses into adoring submission.
