National Chambal Sanctuary is situated near Etawah district in Uttar Pradesh and is also famous as National Chambal Gharial Wildlife Sanctuary. It is a preserved area for endangered Gharial Crocodiles, Ganges River Dolphin and the Red-crowned roof turtle.
The other endangered species of the crocodile family includes Muggar crocodile, Smooth-coated Otter, Hyaena and Indian Wolf. The central attractions of the sanctuary are fresh water dolphins, 18 ft Gharial and 21 ft Crocodile.
The National Chambal Sanctuary is famous for the rare gigantic dolphin. The sanctuary was founded in 1979 and is part of a large area co-administered by Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Apart from the gangetic dolphin, the other inhabitants of the sanctuary include magar (crocodile) and gharial (alligator), chinkara, sambar, nilgai, wolf and wild boar.
The main attraction of the sanctuary is the rare gangetic dolphin. The park is inhabited by crocodiles, alligators, chinkara, sambhar, nilgai, wolf and wild boar. There are also a large number of terrestrial and aquatic animals.
