Moosi Maharani ki chhatri is not only a soulful and lyrical commemoration of Maharaja Bhaktawar Singh and Queen Moosi, but also their intense bond.
Moosi Maharani ki Chhatri is a striking cenotaph of historical significance. This double storey structure was built by Vinay Singh in honour of Maharaja Bakhtawar Singh, and his Queen Rani Moosi in the year 1815 A.D. The architectural grandeur gives the monument a spectacular view. The elephant structural design based on pillars of red sand stone is an attention grabbing piece in the monument.
The ‘Chhatri’ refers to an elevated dome-shaped pavilion, which is usually built to symbolise pride and honour in the Rajputana architecture of Rajasthan. The Moosi Maharani ki Chhatri consists of two floors, with the upper story made entirely of marble stones, and housing dramatic bends and polished roofs. The embellished interiors, though offering glimpses of beauty with their marvellous wall paintings, are betrayed by the want of thorough maintenance, which has led to most of the frescoes on the ceiling becoming inconspicuous.
