Originating within the Himalayan foothills, Manas River basically is the largest river system of Bhutan. It is joined by three other major streams before it appears in western Assam, and then the Aie River at Bangpari before it comes together with the mighty Brahmaputra River at Jogighopa. Manas River travels a total length of 376 kilometers before meeting Brahmaputra, with almost 272 kilometers within Bhutan and 104 kilometers in Assam. This journey has substantially given birth to two major preserved wildlife sanctuaries along the river valleys; the Royal Manas National Park in Bhutan, and the Manas Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam.
