Karan Mahal is located within the Junagarh Fort. The Karan Mahal is also known as the Public Audience Hall. It is considered to be the first monument that was constructed in Bikaner. As a result a lot of historical importance is associated with it. The Karan Mahal reflects the Mughal style of architecture. It was built around 1690 under the reign of Maharaja Anup Singh. It was conceived as a memorial of his father, Raja Karan Singh. It is also seen as a tribute to the elevation and restoration of the state of Bikaner.
It is essentially built in the traditional Rajputana white marble and stucco design. The carvings here reflect the artistry of the architectures at Delhi. During the reign of Maharaja Gaj Singh the mahal got a throne. The throne was intricately designed with painted Mughal ornaments. This design is, however, more resplendent to look at and it resemble the classic deigns of the 17th and 18th centuries. The walls and the ceilings of the palace are further decorated with bouquets, vases, garlands and bowls that are filled with flowers.
