Kamarpukur, renowned as the birthplace of great saint Sri Ramakrishna, is a holy place situated in the Hooghly District of West Bengal in India. Ramakrisna took birth on Kamarpukur soil in 1836 as the son of a poor Brahmin. Ramakrishna’s original home was situated at this village and later Ramakrishna Math was established at this place. The canal Bhutir-Khal flows on the western side of the village. This is a pilgrimage location of devotees of Sri Ramakrishna. Kamarpukur is a scenic village and has a special place as a natural attraction apart from the importance as a religious destination. The natural beauty and the calmness of this place attract thousands of seclusion seeking tourists to this place. There are many serene ponds suitable for undertaking water sports activities and water tourism. The nearby village of Bhursubo is renowned as a place where a great personality named Manik Raja lived. The Mango grove and the Sukhasayer and Hatisayer tanks are his contributions to this place. The village still has the signs of ancient life styles, cultures and prosperity. The old buildings, tanks and remains of ancient temples are all attractive to the travelers.
