The Dakshineswar Temple is situated on the banks of the River Ganges, alongside the Vivekananada Bridge and is at a short distance from Barasat. It is considered to be one of the holiest temples and is dedicated to Goddess Kali. The 12-spired temple spans an area of around 25 acres and its courtyard is surrounded by 12 other temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. The popularity of the temple is associated with Ramakrishna Parahamsa, who is believed to have achieved spiritual vision at this temple.
