The Adayapeath Temple is located near the Dakshineswar Temple and is dedicated to Goddess Kali, the presiding deity at the temple. According to legends, the idol of the temple was found by a young Brahmin in Eden Gardens. Though he was worshipping the idol, he was commanded by the Goddess in a dream to immerse it in the Ganges River. He took a photograph of the image and established the temple with that photograph. The other interesting feature of the templeis, that the spire of Adayapeath Temple comprises the symbols of all religions such as the Trident of Shiva, the Cross, the Moon and Star and the Hand Fan. The temple is built of white marble and has an altar built like large steps. The topmost step consists of Radha and Krishna, encircled by the sacred syllable “Om”; the second step consists of the replica of the Goddess Adya and the bottom step consists of the deity of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa seated in a cross legged posture.
