Anand Bhavan, Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh India

The Anand Bhavan is a historic house museum in Allahabad, India focusing on the Nehru-Gandhi Family. It was constructed by Indian political leader Motilal Nehru in the 1930s to serve as the residence of the Nehru family when the original mansion Swaraj Bhavan (previously called Anand Bhavan) was transformed into the local headquarters of the Indian National Congress. It was donated to Indian government in 1970 by Indira Gandhi.

Today it has been converted into a memorial and museum. Here one is offered a glimpse of the lifestyle of the family that retained for a long time and even today the status of the most important political dynasty in India. It is a two storied building which has rooms including the one where Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi used to stay during his visits.

However the main reason, Anand Bhavan is popular among the locals and the rest of the tourists thronging this mansion, is that this place where the first National Congress was formed in 1885. It is also the place from where Mahatma Gandhi started his non-violence movement in 1920.

This apart, the other major attractions of the museum at the Anand Bhavan are the bedroom and study along with other rooms belonging to Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Mahatma Gandhi. The museum also houses various personal items and belongings of Nehru-Gandhi clan, which are on display. The study section of the museum has variety of books dedicated to Marx and Lenin. It also houses a room, which runs an audio-visual presentation of "The Story of Independence".

The beautiful garden houses a planetarium that is one of the major attractions for children visiting Anand Bhavan as the planetarium unfolds wonders of outer space. There are various scientific and educational models, which are available on sale for the students.
