Amba Mata Temple in Junagadh, Gujarat is one of the very ancient temples of India.Amba Mata Temple is highly sublime pilgrimage center for the Hindus. Amba Mata Temple is said to attract more than thousand of pilgrims from all parts of the country, throughout the year.
Amba Mata Temple in Junagadh, is situated at the top of the Girnar mountain. The Girnar mountain is one of the impotent pilgrimage sit of Junagadh, which is itself a very picturesque town of India. Apart from the Amba Mata Temple, Junagadh is dotted with a number of historical monuments and temples.
Amba Mata Temple of Junagadh is dedicated to an incarnation of the mother Goddess Amba. The temple is mainly visited by the newly married couples. They come here to acquire the blessings of the Goddess and secure the eternal conjugal bliss. The construction of the Amba Mata Temple of Gujarat dates back to the 12th century and it is mainly visited to attain a happy marriage. You will get a wonderful view of the down town from the Amba Mata Temple on the Girnar Mountain.
The Goddess Amba was the most worshiped deities of pre-Aryan race. In this mountain, the imprinted footsteps of Goddess were found. Further the imprints of her chariot were also seen here before the Amba Mata Temple of Junagadh was constructed . According to legends, the tonsure ceremony of Lord Krishna also took place in this religious site. There is a golden yantra in the Amba Mata Temple with 51 'shlokas' on it. In the courtyard of the Amba Mata Temple of Junagadh the folk drama called 'Bhavai' is performed.

Ambaji (Banaskantha district) is the seat of Ambe Mata, the mother goddess. Hers is a household name in the state. People pay honor to her during Navratri in song and dance. Navratri in Gujarat is comparable to the worship of Saraswati in Bengal. Ambe Mata is the Adya Shakti- the primordial female power the mother goddess. The Ambaji temple which is situated on the Arasur hill in the Aravali Range does not contain any idol. It has only a yantra engraved in a niche. The shrine is made of marble. Shiv's father-in-law Daksha Prajapati felt insulted when the son-in-law did not stand up to receive him. In order to slight him he organized ayagna and did not invite Shiv. Sati went to the yagna uninvited. She too felt slighted when people failed to take note of her presence. According to Puranas she fell into the sacrificial fire. Shiv picked up her body and rushed about in great grief. Vishnu had to intervene. He cut up the body with his discus, so that Shiv may regain his composure. According to tradition one of the pieces fell at Ambaji. A short distance from Ambaji is the Gabbar Hill. It is said that the goddess revealed herself on the Hill and left her footprints.
