Alipore, India Overview
Alipore is a place that is situated in the South Parganas district of the state of West Bengal. It is an important locality that is situated near the city of Kolkata. Alipore is an old place and there are few historical places that you can visit here. Alipore is well known for its large mansions and well maintained gardens.
The Alipore Zoological Gardens are among the oldest menageries in the state and the place is home to several species of animals such as elephants, Bengal tigers, rhinoceros, jaguars, camels, zebras, emus, giraffes and African lions. The zoo also has a wide collection of birds.
The place is famous for the Bengali handicrafts that are made here. These can be purchased as souvenirs. It is also worth visiting the Alipore Library. This is an old place and has an excellent collection of books. The Parasnath Temple is a Jain temple and it is a beautiful building and a must see place, while travelling to the region.
