Ramnagar Wildlife Sanctuary in Jammu is spread across the vast and rich Himalayan terrain of 31 km. Just a few kilometres away from Jammu, this park houses uncommon wild life and extraordinary birds. The sanctuary area is home to 8 mammal species including Nilgai and Barking Deer, Wild Boar, Rhesus Monkey amongst others. It is also a home to 15 species of birds including Indian Mynah, Blue Rock Pigeon, Peafowl, Red Jungle Fowl, Jungle Crow, Golden Oriole, and White Cheeked Bulbul.
Tourist can set out for an exciting jeep safari in the dense forest and spot animals in their natural habitat. The place gives best photography opportunities to avid photographers. One can enjoy the real beauty of the sanctuary by trekking in the jungles of Ramnagar Wildlife Sanctuary. Tourists are advised to wear light clothes, carry raincoat and wear trekking shoes if visiting the sanctuary in summer and spring. Winters are chilly and hence tourists are advised to carry heavy woollens, water-proof windcheaters and winter trekking shoes along with them while going on forest excursions. For a fuller experience, one can stay in the huts built right in the middle of the sanctuary and make the trip full of adventure and fun.

The best season to see mammals is from September to March and for bird viewing the time is from March to May.
