Located in the Kishtwar town of Jammu and Kashmir, Kishtwar High Altitude National Park was accorded the status of a National Park in the year 1981. The snow-capped herculean Himalayas provide a perfect backdrop to the park. The rivers Rinnay, Kibar Nala and Marwa in the north, south and west respectively surround the Kishtwar High Altitude National Park and the rivulets along the park succeed in giving a scenic beauty to it.
Kishtwar National Park was established with the main aim of protecting snow leopards. The park consists of over 15 mammal species that include Himalayan black and brown bear, Kashmiri stag and Wild Boar amongst others.
The park is a bird watchers’ delight! One may find over 50 species of birds resting in the park along the streams. It will surely be a memorable experience to spot the animals leaping and running around. An insight into the wildlife will leave you completely spellbound. The disparate species of trees, shrubs, herbs make it a perfect habitat for the fauna present in the park.
If you are interested in jungle/adventure activities then Kishtwar High Altitude National Park is the place to be! Go trekking with your family and friends or simply enjoy strolling amidst nature. The nearby waterfalls will boost up your energy level and you will feel one with nature. If you visit the park in spring or summers time, then you may enjoy seeing the richly grown saffron fields. The saffron is cultivated and harvested with a number of rituals and festivals here. So if you want to experience nature and the hubbub city agitates you, then this park is specially meant for you. Summers are usually enjoyable when the temperature here fluctuates between 11 to 35 degrees Celsius. The temperature falls to the maximum of -7 degree Celsius in winters, so plan your visit in winters only if you are really prepared to bear the extreme climate conditions.
September to March is considered the best time for the wildlife buffs and the birdwatchers will enjoy the park anytime between March and May.
