Located in Jaisalmer, Nathmalji Ki Haveli is known for its splendid architecture and intricate carvings. It was the former residence of Diwan Mohata Nathmal, the then Prime Minister of Jaisalmer. Constructed by the two Muslim brothers Hathi and Lulu, Nathmalji Ki Haveli is an epitome of perfect imagination. It is the amalgamation of Rajput and Islamic style of architecture. The place speaks and boasts of the skills of the ancient labourers, who constructed such a beautiful palace with almost no provision of machinery.
As you enter Nathmalji Ki Haveli, the lifelike giant elephants, carved in yellow sandstone, will widen your eyeballs. It seems as if the elephants are guarding the magnificent Haveli. The huge pillars and walls with beautiful work on them are really beautiful to watch. The walls and pillars have beautifully carved horses, cattle, other animals along with the depiction of flora amongst others. It is really interesting to watch the modern amenities like fans and cars engraved on the walls.
The huge ceilings with excellent work on them, enhances the royalty of the Haveli. The splendid windows cut out in a beautiful way, the lovely balconies and the interesting, appealing murals will spur you to appreciate the great imagination and hard work put in by the labourers of that time. The amazing architecture in itself depicts the life of royalty enjoyed by the dignitaries of that time. This exquisite Nathmalji Ki Haveli of Jaisalmer attracts a number of tourists and is still a place of interest for all the history buffs and art lovers.
The best time to visit this place is during winter months between October and March when you will be able to enjoy exploring the Haveli as well as Jaisalmer in the pleasant weather.
