Muniyara Caves, Maraiyoor, Kerala India

The dwelling caves of ancient tribal located at 1 km away from Marayoor on the way to Kanthalloor. These caves have been made of huge rocky planks or slabs. These were holy caves where the ancient sages used to meditate. The sight of the cave really a wonder. Visitors can also find a temple on the bank of Pambar which has been created in a single rock.

Muniyara Caves is situated a kilometer away from Marayoor on the way to Kanthalloor. The structure of the caves is very interesting. It is believed to be an ideal place for the ancient sages for meditation and in ancient days dead bodies were kept in it. Made of huge rocky slabs, Muniyara is a fascinating spot for many anthropologists and archeologists from all over the world. Adjacent to the Muniyaras is the river of Pambar, a short river from Marayoor. Remnants of Stone Age tools and pottery got from the Muniyaras are now displayed in the Wayanad Heritage Museum, Ambalavayal.

Muniyara is fascinating destination for anthropologists and archaeologists from all over the world. There are many dolmenoid muniyaras around the area of Kovilkadavu and the cliffs near river pambar, a short rive from Marayoor. Remnants of Stone Age tools and pottery found within these cellars are now displayed at the Wayanad Heritage Museum, Ambalavayal. The place is a famous film shooting spot.
