The central museum was established in 1929. it is located on the Agra Mumbai road near the General Post Office in Indore. The museum is also well known as Indore museum. It is purely a regional institution. Museum displays some of the rare and elegant collection of architecture that deserves the maintenance so that they could be maintained for the future generation so that they could see and learn from this historical peace of architecture. Museum has the collection of the finest artifacts and the Parmar sculptures from the prehistoric period. The Parmar style was originated from Indore only. The main features of Parmar architecture are there careful and intricate ornamentation and there depiction made on stones. The Central Museum in Indore also houses idols of the Parmar sculptures and the ancient divinities who were worshiped in Madhya Pradesh many centuries ago. The museum also has an very good collection of the Hindus and the Jain sculptures that varies from the medieval and pre-medieval period. One of the main attractions of this museum is the collection of the Parmar dynasty sculpture which are dated back from the 11th and 12th century. The statues of lord Shiva and Parvati seated on Nandi, Parvati standing on Chamunda are placed here. The museum is well known for its coins, arms and armour collection. Central museum also contains some relics of ancient civiliastion that belongs to the Indus valley civilization. The museus has been divided into two galleries. Gallery 1 and gallery 2. In gallery 1 there is a display of the aprehistoric period of mp that ranges from 5000 to 4000 B.C. The various types of exhibits such as quartz, ornaments, stone tools are also kept in the museum that are related to the western Malwa. In gallery 2 carvings of hindu mythology are displayed. You can visit the Museum on all days except Monday. It is opened between 10:00 am and 05:00pm. There is no admission fee. Guides are also available for the convenience of the visitors. The Indore Museum is a must see site in Indore.
Indore city railway division comes under Ratlam Division of Western Railways. Main railway station for Indore is Indore Junction BG. Their is one more railway station 'Indore Station MG' on meter gauge railway track. Here in Indore, one can find both broad gauge & meter gauage in operational status.
