The name behind this place is derived from King Bimbisar who was imprisioned by his own son Ajatashatru. In order to attain the throne Ajatashatru had taken this drastic step. Another reason is that he could also observe Lord Buddha climbing the beautiful hills of Griddhakuta. This place represents history of Bihar. Located on top of the hill, people would enjoy serene and calm environment and also would get panoramic view of city. You feel great presence of Lord Buddha in this magical place. Tourists can have convenience while travelling to this place.
Bimbisara's Jail is the site where King Bimbisara was put in prison by his son and heir, Ajatashatru. The captive king chose this place for his imprisonment because from here, he could see Lord Buddha climbing up the Griddhakuta Hill to his mountain retreat. From this spot, one can also get a clear view of the Japanese Pagoda or Shanti Stupa built atop the hill.
