Supaul, India Overview
Supaul is a town and a municipality that is headquarters of Supaul district in the Indian state of Bihar. Not far from this place is the Indian border connecting Nepal. The Supaul Town is the administrative headquarters of this district.
River Kosi flows through Supaul. After the construction of Kosi Dam the flood situation has improved in Supaul. This year though (2008) the river Kosi changed its course and took the route it used to take 200 years ago. As a result major parts of Supaul districts were flooded. These were the worst floods since 1954.

Supaul has a rich history. The District of Supaul had been a part of Mithilanchal since the Vedic period. The area has been referred to as the fishery area (Matsya Kshetra) in the Hindu mythology. The two oldest democracies namely Angutaran and Apadnigam are known for their existence in the Buddhist era, which comprises today’s area of district Supaul.
The river Kosi which is considered as the sorrow of Bihar, flows through the district. It's major tributaries are Tilyuga Chhaimra, Kali, Tilawe, Bhenga, Mirchaiya, Sursar. The type of soil is sandy. Some where it is acetic and somewhere it is basic in nature. Supaul district in Bihar covers an area of 2,420 Sq. km. Supaul district is part of the Koshi division. Supaul town is the administrative headquarter of the district. The district is bounded by Nepal in the north, Saharsa in the south, by Araria district in the east and on the west by Madhubani district. The East-West corridor(National Highway-57) is passing in Simrahi Bazar , Supaul, Raghopur. There are famous schools called Willyams High School which is 112 years old. Apart from two schools Bivha International school and Jawahar Navodaya vidyalaya,one more famous school is RSM Public school, which produce a scores of talented students with a high class achievement not nationally but internationally. Bivha International school is affiliated with International Baccalaureate & IGCSE while Jawahar navodaya Vidyalaya & RSM School are affiliated with CBSE(New Delhi).Bivha International school is located at Simrahi Bazar ,(Supaul) beside of National Highway 106, and JNV is in supaul headquarter. Apart from it there also few school who has become popular in these days. There is a public club which is more than 100 yrs old. Supaul is well connected to capital of state and country with rail and roads. Politically Supaul stands ahead with comparison to other district and it is a lok sabha constituency which produced eminent leaders like Lalit Narayan Mishra(Former Railway Minister),Satish Raj(Social Worker)and many more. Well - known 1974 batch IPS officer Late Randhir Prasad Verma belongs to this district town of the village Jagatpur. Supaul is also work place of famous doctor & educationalist Dr, Pamal.
