Bangalpukhari is situated on south of the city near Na-ali.. An interesting incident is associated with the construction of the tank and people still remember the incident in Jorhat.

In 1739, Badan Barphukan, a cruel and brutal Ahom Governor, was murdered by Rupsingh Bangal, for which he was rewarded with money. Rupsingh Bangal utilized the amount for constructing a tank, which later became famous as Bangalpukhari. But the local people do not use its water as it was built from the money earned by murdering a man.
