Ayyanakere Lake, Chikmagalur, Karnataka India

Situated at a distance of 20 kms from Chikmagalur Town in the Malnad region, Ayyanakere Lake is a wonderful waterbody frequented by nature enthusiasts. There is a pyramid shaped peak situated alongside the lake which is equally charming. This is an excellent scenic picnic spot from where you can witness the beauty of the Agumbe and Sringeri hills at dusk and dawn.

This second biggest lake in the state was developed during the 12th century so as to maintain and enhance the fertility of the surrounding lands. It irrigates about 21,560 hectares of land within the region serving as a blessing to the farming community. Recreational activities like fishing and camping are permitted for the visitors at Ayyanakere Lake. Apart from the lake tourists can also visit the Shakhuni Ranganatha Temple located nearby.
