Topchanchi is about 37 km from Dhanbad, it is situated on the Grand Trunk Road. The Parasnath Hill is located nearby. The Topchanchi Water Reservoir spreads over an area of 214 acres. It is a noted picnic spot.

In 1915, Topchanchi Lake was excavated along the slope of Parasnath Hill that was used as major supply water to Jharia region. Gomoh is situated at a distance of 6 kms which earned itself the name when Netaji Subash Chandra Bose boarded the train for his historical departure from India on the 18 Jan 1941.
