Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, India Overview
Located 20 km from the steel city of Jamshedpur, Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary lies in the catchment area of Subarnarekha River and is spread over an area of 193 sq km. Its undulating terrain with high hillocks, plateau, deep valley and open fields between hillocks, provides natural habitat for diverse flora and fauna.
Apart from the famed elephants, the sanctuary has barking deer, wild bears, sloth beer, porcupines, leopard, tigers, giant squirrels, monkeys, langurs and several species of birds, including peacocks. The steep slopes of Dalma are a trekker’s delight. Small hideouts have been made at several places in the sanctuary where one can see wilds animals in their natural habitat.

Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary is located near Jamshedpur in the Indian state of Jharkhand and is situated on the ranges of Dalma Hills. The Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary is based at a height of 3,000 ft above sea level, surrounded with lush green vegetation. Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary covers an area of 193 sq. km. and lies in the catchment area of Subarnarekha River and adjoining Purulia District of West Bengal. The sanctuary, which lies on the National Highway No. 33 near Jamshedpur, was inaugurated by Sanjay Gandhi in the year 1975.
