Pilgrimage Place in Patna City

Takht Patna Sahib enjoys the privilege of being the birthplace of the Tenth Guru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He was born here on December 22, 1666. There stands, at the sacred place a magnificent holy shrine, called Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib. It is situated in one of the old quarters of Patna city, once known as Kucha Farrukh Khan, now known as Harmandir Gali.
This sacred place has the honour of being visited by the first Guru Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji and the Patna Sahib, Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib Patna, Gurudwara Patna Sahib ninth Guru Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur ji. It is from this place that the commandment of valiance and fearlessness was issued to the Sikh fraternity. The ninth Guru waxed eloquent about this to justify ways of God to men. "This is why I was born and set Patna Sahib as my place of work". This very line indicates that Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji was born at this sacred place. After bidding an adieu to his promising childhood at Sri Patna Sahib, Guru Sahib stepped into the holy land of Sri Anandpur Sahib.
Gurudwara Patna Sahib is regarded as the centre for propagating Sikhism in the east. As history would have it, Takht Sri Patna Sahib is the second accepted and acknowledged Takht of the Sikhs.
It was 'Sher-e-Punjab' Maharaja Ranjit Singh who, first of all, undertook the task of raising a monumental Sikh Temple at this place. As a result of an earthquake, the celestial edifice came to be a heap of dust. With the co-operation of the Sikh masses, the golden fabric, as it stands today, has come into its own.
Recognized as the birthplace of the tenth Sikh Guru Govind Singh, Patna Sahib is one of the pilgrimage and religious sites of India. Located in the Indian city of Patna, this place was built in 1839. It is believed that the Sikh guru spend his early years of his life before moving on to Anandpur. The pilgrims flood this place from all over the country.
The gurudwara, Harmandir Takht is a holy place, which is revered by the Sikhs. This takht is most sacred of the other five takhts. You can locate Patna Sahib in the old parts of the city of Patna. Previously, it was known as Kucha Farrukh Khan and presently it is known as the Harmandir Gali. Three of the takhts are located in Punjab, one in Maharashtra and another one in Patna. The Patna Sahib in Patna was also the residing place of Guru Tegh Bahadur.
The Patna Sahib was destroyed by fire and the work of reconstruction of the gurudwara again started during 1839. Maharaja Ranjit Singh ordered the building of the new building. At the shrine of the Guru Govind Singh you can find a cradle with four stands, which is coated with golden places, sacred sword of the Guru, four iron arrows and a pair of sandals. The gurudwaras also preserves the Hukumnamas by the Guru Govind Singh and Guru Tegh Bahadur. This is of great importance to the Sikh disciples.
The architectural structure of the Patna Sahib in Patna is an impressive and imposing. This marble structure of the gurudwara is an amazing piece of structural design. There is a museum inside the gurudwara, which exhibits beautiful paintings related to the life of the Sikh guru, foot wears and other articles which belonged to the Sikh Guru. To get inside the gurudwaras, you need to keep your head covered and bare your feet.
There are some shops lined along the street. You can buy some interesting items from the shop and gift it to your loved ones. Bamboo and leather articles are the major buy from the shops near Patna Sahib. Visit this place to feel the charm of it.
