At a distance of just 8 Kms, this temple is believed to be a thousand years old. Shejjeswar temple is among one of the five temples in Gokarna history where pieces of Atmalinga which Ravan was carrying with him are believed to have been dropped. Gokarn, Dhareswar, Murudeswar and Gunavanteswar are the other four famous temples.
Shejjeswar Temple, otherwise known as Siddeswar Temple, is situated at a distance of 4 km from Karwar Town. According to local belief, this pilgrimage site is counted among the five temples that belong to the Gokarna mythology. Another popular folklore says that the parts of Atmalinga that was taken away by the demon king Ravan fell at Shejjeswar Temple. Thousands of devotees from all parts of the country visit this temple during the occasion of Maha Shivratri.
