Tourists planning a trip to Karwar are advised to visit Narasimha Temple, which is situated on the top of Kurumgad Island at a distance of 6 km from the city. This temple is dedicated to Lord Narasimha, who was the incarnation of God Vishnu as per Hindu mythology. Devotees have to trek up the hill at Kurumgad Island in order to reach this temple. Thousands of pilgrims from across the country visit the Narasimha Temple during January in order to partake in Yathra, the annual festival. Tourists on a trip to Karwar can reach this religious site via ferry from Sadhashivgad Boat Jetty.
Narsimha Mandir is one of the most revered temples in Karnataka. It is situated about 6 km from Karwar, on top of a hill at Kurumgad, a tortoise shaped island. The temple, as the name suggests, is dedicated to lord Narasimha, one of the 10 incarnations of Lord Maha Vishnu. According to a legend, Lord Narasimha made his way through a long creek leading to a cave near the temple. Geologists, however, certify that an earthquake formed this interesting rock formation over 300 million years ago.
