Nadukani is an ideal place for one-day picnickers. As the name indicates, this park offers panoramic view of the a large area of the same and nearby districts. A two-storyed pavilion makes an ideal place for enjoying the landscape and beauty of nature.
The word Nadukani means “To See the Country” as the word itself gives a brief description about the place. The place plays a vital role in Kerala tourism. As Nadukani comes under Idduki district there is no clear evidence about the early history of the place. During the 18th century half of the area of Idduki district came under the rule of Poonjar Raja and it was him who sold half of the region to European planters in the year 1877. The planter’s migrant to the high regions and deforestation was occurred for the growth of hydroelectric projects, roadways and factories etc. At the end of 19th century the verdant greenery of the area was completely destroyed.
This wonderful location attracts a lot of one – day picnickers every year. There are many nearby attractions here, that encourages tourists to visit this popular hill station. Moolamattom Underground Powerstation is one among the attractions near ‘Nadukani’. It is the biggest underground hydro – electric power station in India. Moolamattom Power station lies in the most picturesque spot and is located on the banks of Thodupuzha River. Its one of the widely visited destinations for study tour packages. Visitors are only allowed to visit the area under special permissions due to security reasons.
Situated at a height of 1300 ft above sea level, Chamundi Hill Palace Resort is another attraction situated at Nadukani, near Edakunnam. This resort lies in a peaceful environment in the middle of the greenish beauty of nature and offers traditional Ayurvedic healing in the soul soothing cool climate.
