Muniyara Dolmens, Munnar, Kerala India

Marayur or Marayoor is a place in Kerala state, South India. 42 kilometers north of Munnar through the Udumalppetta route, Marayur is the only place in Kerala that has natural sandalwood forests. Ancient dolmens and rock paintings in Marayur date back to the Stone Age.

Apart from the dolmens of Megalith Age, there are numerous dolmens of Iron Age in this region mostly present on the left side of Pambar River. It is becomes obvious due to the usage of neatly dressed granite slabs for the dolmens. Several types of dolmens are found including the over-ground ones, which outnumber the other types.

One type is about 70–90 cm in height and the other type is 140–170 cm. There is also an over-ground dolmen with double the length up to 350 cm.
