This church was built by the British in 1910. The church has beautiful stained glass windows and is built entirely with stones. Many British, who came here to work in the tea plantations, have been buried at the cemetery attached to the church. The British handed over the church to CSI North Kerala Diocese when they left the High Range. Till then both the Indians and British worshipped in the same church at different times.
This church is an integral part of religious Kerala tours. When you prepare a list of things to do in Kerala, make sure to include a visit to the CSI Christ Church. Even if you have not come for a religious tour, visiting this church will be worthwhile. The church has a very unique history. The story of this church dates back to 1894, when Mrs. Eleanor Knight was buried in the cemetery attached to the church. Some other British were also buried there after her. This area was declared to be sacred by Rt. Rev. Noel Hodges on the day of Easter, 15th April 1900. Sir A.K. Muir laid the foundation stone of the church in the year 1910 on 16th April which was again the Easter Day.
When the British left the High Range in 1981, they handed over the church to the Kerala Diocese. Since then both British as well as Indian worshippers come to this church for prayer at different time. At present the church is the head quarter of CSI Munnar Pastorate.
