Majathal Sanctuary is a wildlife hub located around Solan. Spreading on an area of 55,670 sq km, the sanctuary is a forested area as declared by the Himachal government and has a wide species of flora and fauna. Popular sightings in the sanctuary include diversity of gorals, goats and many varieties birds as well. Cheer Pheasant, endangered specie of bird can be commonly sighted here. The best time to visit is during the winter. Accommodation in form of jungle houses are available inside the sanctuary. There is no direct mode of transportation available for the sanctuary. Tourists need to get down at kashlog (located on Shimla-Bilaspur road) and then walk till the sanctuary.
This sanctuary has a very steep and rugged terrain. Cheer Pheasant away from habitation. This can be visited by travelling about 10 kms on a kacha road Kararaghat (Shimla-Bilaspur- Highway) to Kashlog and then walking on foot from Kashlog. This sanctuary has the highest concentration of Goral which can be seen in its natural habitat. This sanctuary is reported to have the maximum population of endangered Cheer pheasant. One has to stay in tents in the forest, Best season to visit is the winters.
