Arki Fort is a renowned tourist destination located in the town of Arki in Himachal Pradesh. This fort was built by Rana Prithvi Singh during the period 1695 to 1700. Gurkhas, who used it as a stronghold to launch many attacks on the British, held it till 1815. The fort exhibits the fusion of Rajput and Mughal architectural styles. There is a collection of Pahari style wall paintings that show the lifestyle of people residing in hilly areas. A part of the fort has been converted into a heritage hotel.
Arki Fort is one of the renowned places in Shimla and it has witnessed various rulers. The Gurkhas held the fort till 1815 and they waged war against British. Later, the fort was turned to a heritage hotel. Originally, the fort was built by Rana Prithvi Singh. The architectural beauty of this fort is something which you will surely admire while walking in and around it. You can also appreciate the paintings created by the local people.
Situated at a distance of approximately 40 km from Shimla, Arki is a small town in the Solan district that was once the capital of the princely state of Baghal. Gurkhas trying to invade the city used Arki Fort as their stronghold during the Gurkha Wars that went on till 1815-16. The fort offers both the historical legends and artistic creations to the tourists. It is built on the hillside, in terraces. Rana Shiv Sharan Singh laid down the foundation of the famous Diwankhana of the Arki Fort Palace in the year 1830.
