Pilgrimage Place in Sitamarhi

This is an ancient temple of Lord Shiva about 3 kms North-West of Sitamarhi. According to myths the King of Videha on the occasion of Putrayesthi Yojna, founded this temple.
Haleshwar Sthan is a pilgrimage tourism site located in the 3 km north-west of Sitamarhi District in Bihar. This is the place where according to the Indian Mythology; King Janak began to plough the field for rain and in order found Sita, who married Lord Rama of Ayodhaya.
This place consists of an ancient Lord Shiva temple, which is thought to be the first Shiva Linga temple in the state of Mithila. Currently, there are no archaeological survey has been made at the site but the manuscripts on the stone located in the region are seemingly 7,000 years old. In that place, there will be a large fair called Saavan Mela, which is organized by the temple authority, is popular in northern Bihar and Nepal.
Haleshwar Sthan, a delightful settlement with much religious importance. Haleshwarnath Temple, devoted to Lord Shiva, is the major landmark in the village. According to another legend, King Videha of Videhas tribe founded the temple.
