The temple is situated at Daulashal, a village situated at the southwest of the Nalbari town. In ancient times a huge doul or temple and near it a canal (khal) and so the place was called is “Daulakhal” and later “Daulashal”.

The temple is dedicated to lord Krishna and his brother Balaram. Legends say that in ancient times a doul (temple) existed in the place. The place was hence called Doulkhal. Doulkhal later became Doulshal.
