Triund Hill East South ViewTriund Hill is located at a height of about 2,842 meters above sea level and with a distance of about 9 kilometers from McLeodganj (located at height of 2,082 meters above sea level) and 17 kilometers from Dharamsala. During your trek if lucky enough, you can see the snow birds and wild animals like musk deer and black bear. Once you reach the top of Triund you will find yourself standing in front of the mighty and humble looking Dhauladhar (the mountain peak of Dhauladhar is at an altitude of about 4,800 meters from sea level).
The trek to Triund Hill is a popular activity for visitors to McLeodganj as it provides the first real challenging opportunity for many to walk within the amazing landscapes and breathe the crisp mountain air.
The route to the summit of Triund Hill covers a distance of 9 km but the change in elevation is what makes the walk moderate difficulty. The summit of Triund Hill lies at 2,875 m while McLeod Ganj’s starting elevation is only 2,082. From the summit of Triund Hill there are amazing views over the craggy snow capped mountain of Dhauladhar to the north and rolling hills to plains in the sout.
The hike to the summit of Triund Hill is highly recommend as the walk fits within a (long) day’s hiking. The route is of moderate difficulty and involves climb some steep roads or footpaths but is suitable for most fit visitors to McLeod Ganj. Do not under estimate the hike to Triund Hill, the weather in the mountains can change very rapidly, with even snow storms possible in the summer months. Always take good walking shoes, warm clothes, spare water and food.
