Constructed in 1910-1l, the Thibaw Palace was built for the exiled king and queen of Burma (now Myanmar). They lived in this palace from 1911 till their death in 1916. The five years of their stay are now immortalised in stone with their tombs. In future, this palace might be converted into a regional museum or a heritage hotel.
The palace has sloping roofs and is a three storied structure.The main attraction being the semi-circular wooden windows with beautiful curving.One dancing hall with a fully marble tiles floor is on the first floor.King Thibaw bought the idol of Buddha to India which is installed at the back of the palace.At present is under the maintainence of the archaeological depth.Future plans involve converting the palace into a museum and providing accommodations to the tourists.
